Protein Snack Recipe

By far, the number one macro-nutrient deficiency that I see among the women I work with is protein deficiency. There are several blood markers, that when used to guide optimal health, can help determine if someone is not eating enough protein, and/or in a hypo-caloric state, which means undereating.

Low protein intake can slow down your metabolism. I have found that the majority of women are dealing with some form of an imbalanced metabolism. Where there is an imbalanced metabolism, thyroid dysregulation follows. Adequate protein intake is critical to speeding up a sluggish metabolism! Increasing protein can do wonders for your hormonal health!

Protein becomes the most important macronutrient as we age. That’s because, as we age, our bodies require more protein to preserve muscle mass, keep us healthy, reduce recovery time from illness, and improve overall quality of life.

A higher protein intake as you age is associated with improved glucose regulation and reduction in metabolic diseases, like diabetes. Protein keeps us satiated and helps stabilize our blood sugar.

Many women benefit greatly from adding more protein to their day, especially if they struggle with low energy, fatigue, cravings after a meal, are physically active, are wanting to build muscle, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

I recommend a minimum target of 100 grams of protein. Every. Single. Day. Start by aiming for 30 grams of protein at breakfast and see how this changes your day.

Getting enough might seem impossible, but many find it easier when you add a
clean protein powder like Prime Protein to your diet. Just one scoop has 21g of protein! This is the tool that I use to help me meet my daily protein needs.

Quality is key when it comes to choosing a protein powder.
Prime Protein is 100% grass-fed and finished beef protein. It’s like eating 4 ounces of grass-fed beef, but less likely to cause digestive problems that can come with whey protein. No added chemicals, fillers, binding agents, artificial colors or sweeteners. It’s one of the best tasting protein powders I have found that’s not loaded with harmful ingredients. They also have an unflavored that is great to stir into your favorite recipe to add a boost of protein. It's easy to stir into coffee, yogurt, or your favorite snack, like this protein ball recipe that is a favorite in our house:
3/4 c raw honey
1 c almond butter (or any nut butter)
2 c oats (or almond or coconut flour for grain free)
3 scoops
clean protein powder
1 c total of your choice: sliced almonds, ground flax seed, chia seeds, mini choc chips (70% or higher cacao)
Mix all together, roll into balls and refrigerate for a couple hours - enjoy!
